Sugar and Spice

Well as we all know I am absolutely TERRIBLE at keeping up with a blog. Seeing as I am probably the only person that reads it, no biggie right?  I have always used the excuse of being too busy or forgetful, none of those have changed, if anything they are worse now that we HAVE A BABY ON THE WAY!! I know right? So I don't forget how amazing this whole process has been I decided now is the time for me to attempt to be a little better at documenting our lives.

A little over a year ago Kyle and I decided, after a lot of prayer, that it was time to start our family.  We had my implanon taken out end of Sept. and got to it! ;) I did a lot of research, and I was concerned it would take us a while to get pregnant due to my age and how wacky my cycles have always been.  After about 7 months of trying, the whole time using ovulation kits and tracking everything, I was at the Women's Expo, and one of the booths was for a fertility clinic.  I stopped by and ended up playing a game and won a free sperm analysis (go figure).  I went ahead and booked an appointment to get both of us checked out for mid May.  The week before the appointment I got a positive pregnancy test result!  I was so excited.  I put a bun in the oven and when Kyle came home I told him there was something in the oven, he looked in and immediately became super excited!  Because it was the end of the day on a Friday I wanted to take another test to make sure.  So the next morning I did it again, and nothing :( I was devastated.  I was super emotional and had a hard time with it, but after a few more tests I accepted it and decided it was for the best.
Our appointment came and we explained what happened the prior week, and at this point I was on cycle day 42, which even for me was long.  The doctor explained it could have been a chemical pregnancy (an extremely early miscarriage).  He did the exam, blood work and all sorts of fun things.  At the end of it he explained that I had PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) as well as the beginning stages of endometriosis and once the blood work came back he also diagnosed me with Hypothyroidism. GOODIE!!  He explained that PCOS can cause a myriad of problems-inconsistent cycles, acne, facial hair, weight gain, infertility, increased miscarriage rate-basically nothing good. As hard as it was to hear, it explained a lot and helped me to realize it wasn't my fault that we weren't getting pregnant.  The doctor place me on progesterone, thyroid medication, Metformin, and phentramine to help me lose weight.  I felt like things were at least going to move forward from there.  He said to stop the progesterone once I started my next cycle.  So the waiting began.  Around cycle day 60 I felt like things were going to start any day, and it just so happened it was memorial day weekend and we were going camping with Kyle's family.  I had been feeling sick and super hungry, but I after talking with the doctor he said that was a common side effect of the medication.  We got down to Yuba on Friday and I felt miserable.  The next day things didn't improve and so by Sunday we decided to cut our trip short and head home.  Once we got home we unpacked and got ready for bed.  I took Daphne out and on the front porch was my cheapo pregnancy tests and my ovulation testing strips for my next cycle.  Like any woman I wanted to test these out because I hadn't used them before, and when you are trying to have a baby for a while it, at least in my case, was fun to take them.  So it's like 10pm and I take a pregnancy test and before I can set it down it pops up with two BRIGHT pink lines.  The first thing that pops in to my head was, "Awesome I got a crap batch of prego tests." Just my luck.  So I go and show it to Kyle and I am like I think the tests are bad, there is no way I am pregnant.  We had just had the ultrasound and tests a week before.  He was kind of in the same boat as me and we decide we can test again tomorrow with a digital one and go from there.  So the next morning we get busy cleaning the house and organizing our camping gear, and around 1pm I go and grab a test.  I was actually on the phone with my mom, she had no idea we were trying, and I didn't tell her I was testing.  Within 10 seconds it popped up positive and within a minute it said I was 3wks+ pregnant!! It took all I had not to scream.  I quickly ended the conversation with my mom and ran downstairs, and outside where Kyle was.  I showed him the test and he was in shock!  We called the doctor and luckily he was in the office and told us to come down.  We went down, they did the ultrasound and there the baby was!! After the tests were run they determined I was about 6weeks along!  The doctor, staff, and the two of us were shocked!  It was a miracle out of no where! We were so excited!  Since Sandi (my sister) lived only 5 mins away from the doctor we went over there and told them!  She was so excited for us!  We swore them to secrecy and decided to wait until we were closer to 12 weeks to tell people.  That would have worked out fine except I got super sick.  I was nauseous and tired all the time.  I also threw up a few times. Nothing major but I knew people would start to notice the symptoms.  Fathers Day came and I was 9weeks along, smack dab in the middle of being sick.  We had been planning on going to celebrate with Kyle's family and I knew there would be no hiding it from his family.  So we made up a little card and placed one of our ultra sounds in a frame, and wrapped it up.  I called my dad and told him happy fathers day.  We told him we got him a gift but it wouldn't be here for another few months, and we were sorry we couldn't afford much because we had spent a lot on doctors visits lately.  He was oblivious and so I told him he would be a grandpa again in January.  He got really excited (and choked up) and called my mom in to the room.  We told her what we had said to him and she was even more excited.  It was so fun!  When we got to Kyle's parents house we walked in and a wave of boiled egg smell hit me like a ton of bricks.  I almost lost everything in the entry way.  I had to stay outside.  Because of this I told Kyle we had to do the gift first.  So he opened our gift and the card.  He started smiling and tuned the picture around to show everyone.  Their reactions were PRICELESS!  There was lots of screaming and jumping. It was the perfect way for us to tell everyone.

This pregnancy, so far has been going along as well as it can.  The puking started getting more frequent and I was placed on Zofran to help with that.  At 15 weeks we had a free gender check at our clinic.  WE ARE HAVING A GIRL!!  Because of my PCOS it had been difficult to get a precise due date.  The OB said I was due, based off my cycle dates, January 1st.  I knew that wasn't accurate and so at the ultrasound check, where he thought I was 18wks along they measured me and I was in fact closer to where I knew I was and gave me a due date of January 20th!  The day after my birthday.  A week and a half ago marked 20wks!! We had our ultrasound and everything looked great!  We feel incredibly blessed and excited to welcome this little girl to our family.

I realized today I never posted this blog...go me!! I am now 27wks and things are going well.  Baby girl is kicking and moving a lot!  Kyle loves being able to update the baby on what is going on in our lives and feel for kicks.  The doctor says I am measuring right on time, and hopefully all will continue to go well :)
